Milwaukee, WI – On Monday, some Latinos in the Milwaukee area were invited to a “Community Leaders Freedom Dinner” by Aldira Aldape, the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (APF) Outreach Director in Milwaukee. The dinner event at the Italian Community Center was co-sponsored by APF, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that advocates the LIBRE Initiative and the other sponsor was Bridge To WellBeing, according to the invite. The LIBRE Initiative by APF provided information to those attending, APF wants to provide tools for the Latino community to prosper and built economic empowerment and identifies itself as a non-partisan and non-profit grassroots organization. But, what APF doesn’t want Latinos to know is that it is actually funded by the alt-right Koch brothers who oppose immigration reform amd advocate to repeal ACA (Obamacare).
In 2015, State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa (D-Milw) released a statement about LIBRE, “The LIBRE Initiative is an ultra-conservative organization funded by out of state billionaires Charles and David Koch that seeks to dismantle the Affordable Care Act, halt increases in the federal minimum wage, fund anti-immigrant Republican politicians, and support voter photo ID laws that aim to further disenfranchise Latino communities.
“As the representative of the largest Latino community in the great state of Wisconsin, I have been dedicated to growing the civic engagement of Latino Wisconsinites in my district and beyond. I am committed to making sure my constituents are made aware that the primary goal of this right-wing organization is to get them to vote against their best interests by voting for Republican candidates who have consistently blocked my efforts to pass pro-Latino, pro-immigrant bills like drivers cards for undocumented immigrants (AB 343) and even symbolic efforts like a bill that would honor national civil rights leader, Cesar Chavez (AB 437).”
It seems that LIBRE is not welcome in the Latino community for its alt-right connection to the Koch brothers and their agenda to continue to disenfranchised the Hispanic community it wants to infiltrate to create division among Latinos similar to what Governor Scott Walker (R) told a major campaign supporter about divide and conquer when unions were actually targeted before ACT 10 was passed to eliminate contract bargaining for state employees.
