Village of East Troy, WI – On Monday, the body of Mori R. Weinstein, 21, a third male drowning victim was recovered from Lake Beulah, which is just South of Mill Lake. Two bodies were recovered on Sunday around 5:30 p.m. and were identified as Lanny Patrick Sack, 20, and Christopher J. McQuillan, 21, from Illinois, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO). Another Illinois man, Patrick Wetzel is still missing after friends of the four drowning victims reported them missing on Sunday morning. The friends last saw the four men step out of a lakeside residence to smoke around 2:30 a.m. and were apparently drinking alcoholic beverages earlier on Sunday.
Later in the morning, friends noticed that the four men were missing and saw tracks leading to a boat house. A canoe was missing.
The WCSO was called at 11:15 a.m. and later on Sunday afternoon rescue divers recovered an overturned canoe in Mill Lake. Shortly after, divers recovered the bodies of Sack and McQuillan from the icy lake.
The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources confirmed that the four men went out canoeing without proper attire or life preserve vests. East Troy police believe in the initial investigation, that alcohol was a contributing factor in their deaths including the frigid 34 degree temperature of the lake and thin ice.
